New Year’s Resolution – 2019

Hello book lovers!

The new year is officially under way. With the new year comes New Year Resolutions. While I’m dreadful with resolutions since it’s usually me setting a goal to not be a total klutz, which only lasts about a week and a half, I make a book resolution to work on all year.

As promised at the beginning of the month, I have my bookish New Year’s Resolution ready to go. I always enjoy setting a challenge for myself while also getting into new reads and getting to reads I’ve always wanted to.

Last year I made a resolution to read from twenty-five authors I’d never read from before. I really enjoyed that because it really opened up my interests. This year, I shook things up a little. My resolution is to read five book series. I do have a couple rules that I’ve made for myself.

Must have more than two books in the series.

Cannot have read them before.

Scarlet Reader

I can’t wait to get started on them. They’re ones I’ve been meaning to get to. I’m so excited that I’m like fireworks, bursting, bright, and loud. I’ve been dying to all of these and very grateful that I was able to get them.

Without further ado, the big five of the year!

I can’t wait to read them and get some reviews up! The only problem now is figuring out which series to start with.

And while also working on this, I’ve accepted a Goodreads challenge of reading 145 books this year. Should be interesting and fun!

Stay tip-top, bookworms! Love you all. Read hard.

Under the Stars – A Book List

Scarlet Reader

“Sometimes while gazing at the night’s sky, I imagine stars looking down making wishes on the brightest of us.”

Richelle E. Goodrich, Making Wishes

Hey bookworms!

Hope you’re having an amazing day.

I want to dedicate this list to the beautiful stars that we live under and the wishes we make on them, as gushy as that sounds. I came up with this theme one night after work. It was freezing cold on my way out to the car. I can see my frosty breath and there’s a coat of frost on the patches of grass and the glisten of potential ice on the asphalt across the parking lot. Then I pause in the middle of the pothole road after glancing up, muttering about this ridiculous cold making me shiver painfully. The stars are out. I realize how crisp the air is when I breathe in through my nose and smile, taking this moment to appreciate that I can see Orion. He’s cool. I wish I had an awesome belt like his.

Here are some recommendations from the stars.

New Year’s Resolution of 2018

I made it!

Scarlet Reader

If you’re new to The Scarlet Reader or haven’t caught up lately you’re probably wondering what I’m talking about. Well, at the beginning of 2018 I made a bookish New Year’s Resolution. All my regular resolutions I make always get broken and pretty early in the year too. That may be because I always make it out to be: I’m not going to be a klutz this year. Which, of course, a week, two weeks later, I trip up the stairs or run into the doorway. So, New Year’s Resolution book style seemed more fun and challenging.

Side Note: I ran into something this week, don’t know when, and now there’s an ugly yellow bruise on my hand. Awesome.

Moving on!

My resolution this year was to read from 25 authors I’ve never read from before. I wanted to do this to open up my spectrum of interests in reading and get introduced to many different styles and stories I’d never thought of or heard of. I also wanted to get to some authors I’ve been meaning to for years.

Below, I have the list of books from my resolution from worst to best. Sooooo…here you go!

That’s What Friends Are For – A Book List

Hello, loves.

With Thanksgiving coming up, I decided on a booklist to represent friendship. I know personally, I’m thankful for my family and friends. Sometimes I’m a lot to put up with LOL.

Whether we’re up or down. In great times of need. Blood or not. Friends are always there for us. This book list is dedicated to them. With love, tragedy, heartache, and hardships, life would be a different beast if we had to tame it by ourselves.

And sometimes it isn’t easy to have friends. You’ll fight and cry and may not speak for days or weeks or months, but you know they’re not far away and that you’ll make up. Sometimes you drift apart and that’s okay, too. Make room for as many as possible is my advice.

Like an onion or a flower, sweet or sour, there will be many. Only a few will crack open your heart and be in your special circle. The circle you pair your family in, and it won’t matter how far away you are from each other. It’s the heart that keeps you connected (and of course social media these days LOL).
