Midnight Tease

Midnight Tease - Giphy

Bookworms! My loves!

It is the midnight hour and if you’re awake like I am right not then you’re an insomniac. Just kidding! But, you do live the night owl life. Since you’re awake, this is what’s coming up this snowy month.

Mostly I’m just trying to keep it together. It’s getting busier by the day with Christmas coming up. People are getting crazier trying to accomplish their holiday lists. I don’t know about you guys, but I could live with only getting books for Christmas. Well, books and a new pair of earbuds since mine broke a week and half ago. I’m a woman that CAN’T live without music and so I’ve been in dreadful withdrawal without earbuds. Come on, Santa, send a pair my way. I’ve been a good girl this year…sort of.

Also, my brother who is in the Army just got home from his time overseas and he and his fam will be joining us for Christmas. I’m very excited. It’s been a few years since we’ve seen him. Thought it’ll be crowded, it’ll be a very happy Christmas.

Now for books! Here’s what I’ll be reading, what I am reading, and what’s up on the chopping block of reviews!!

I’m still counting them as read. Geeeeez, I can’t believe it’s nearly 2019. Anywho, I’ll have a brand-new book blog New Year’s Resolution coming and I’m quite excited!!

Midnight Tease - Giphy

Happy Midnight Hour, my precious booknerds!

Shall I begin this post with the tradition song of Halloween???

Halloween

This is my month! So excited. I look forward to dressing up this Halloween.

Reading this month will be filled with all kinds of spookiness. From witchiness to facing up to a curse that makes your worst fears come true. I can’t wait! There’s something about things that go bump in the night. It’s my kind of normal. Bring on the scary books, scary movies, overdose of sugar, and pumpkins!

Mum and I have put up our Halloween tree. It’s creeping and crawling with spiders and pumpkins and skeletons.

Halloween tree - The Scarlet Reader

We’d gotten the idea last year and then got really lucky to find a black Christmas tree. And yes, that’s a witch hat on top.

Anyway, here’s what’s coming for October!

Midnight Tease

Midnight Tease - Giphy

Hello, bookworms!

It’s the midnight hour and this is the Midnight Tease. Yes, midnight, because who needs sleep. Sleep is for punks. And, yes, I’m a punk because I LOVE sleep. Anywho, this is where I tell you what’s going on and what’s coming up on my reading and reviewing list.

But first…

It’s September! Fall already! Holy cow! You know what that means? Halloween is on the way! Yes, I’m one of those nuts. I even put up a Halloween tree. This month I’m very excited to go see The Nun. It looks pretty damn scary and I love horror!

Nun

As for the daily, every day, kind of living, I wish it was more exciting. Doing double work duty at the bookstore and my other job and coming home to write is about the gist of it. However, I did have a few trips that came up in August. I visited my college Alma Mater to see some friends I haven’t seen in a couple years. It was so good to get away. I believe everybody needs a mini-vacation, especially if you’re feeling like you can’t fit one in or keep telling yourself eventually. Just do it because when you’re telling yourself those things then you definitely need one.

I also got to attend a concert this summer. 3 Door Down, and it was incredible. Great music. I even got to hear my favorite song by them. It really was a great time. Felt good to get out of the house.

I still have a few books from my summer list to get to and can’t wait. I also have a few from last month that I was hoping to catch up to.

Nightlight
Author: The Harvard Lampoon

Nightlight

Every once in a while, you need a good parody, and this one is about Twilight! Not going to lie, I’m excited. Twilight is good, but let’s have a laugh.

Double Eclipse
Author: Melissa De La Cruz

Double Eclipse - Goodreads

I’ve been waiting oh-so impatiently to get this sequel and *SQUEEEE* I have it! The Witches of East End was pretty good. It was different, too with how they descend from Norse mythology. I really enjoyed Triple Moon, which you can find the review-here.

Shooting Scars & Bold Tricks
Author: Karina Halle

The Artists Trilogy

This is another one for which are sequels I’ve been waiting on. The first book, Sins & Needles, which you can find the review-here, was intense, fast and unrelenting. With it’s share of smut and danger, there’s something so rough and raw about it.

The Hatchling
Author: Ezekiel Boone

The Hatching

So…spiders and me don’t get along. Nope! We have a never=ending war. But, since i have an affinity for creepy and scary things, this is perfect.

Ender’s Game
Author: Orson Scott Card

Ender's Game

This is a Sci-Fi that’s been on my radar for a loooong time. It’s been hailed with praise and wonder and I am so excited to have found a copy. This also allows me to broaden my horizons a bit. I love YA, but it’s good to branch out.

So, there’s an interesting slew coming this month. Classics, Sci-Fi, and sequels that I can finally get to-oh my!

I also want to take the time to say thank you for all of you that take an interest in The Scarlet Reader. I know I’m off the page and my geekery for books (among many things) is ridiculous, but I love being able to share my enjoyment of them with you. It’s truly a pleasure to share it in this way on a blog and with many others who also share this passion. I also love being able to garner folks’ interest into something new. So while spastic and sometimes a little crazy, I thank you.

Midnight Tease - Giphy

Hello, bookworms!

It’s October! And that means Halloween, which is Christmas and my birthday put together. The best holiday ever!

Halloween

And here I am with a brand new Midnight Tease to show you what I’m reading, going to be reading and what is up for review this month. There’s a few coming. A twist on a classic novel. Some Neil Gaiman. Good stuff.

Coming soon…

Ghost_atniquity - LiveJournal

Huckleberry Finn

Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and Zombie Jim
Author: Mark Twain & W. Bill Czolggosz

There are zombies!

Friedrich

Friedrich
Author: Hans Peter Richter

I found this in the classic section of the bookstore. Similar to The Diary of Anne Frank, you follow the story of a boy’s friend who is Jewish.

Gotham

Gotham: Dawn of Darkness
Author: Jason Starr

With the new season of Gotham started, I am ready to tackle this fun book. The origins of Det. Gordon (who is crazy dreamy; loved Ben Mackenzie since The O.C.) is a completely fascinating starting base. I’m always looking for a tide-over to feed my favorite TV shows. Now if I could only get my hands on that one Teen Wolf novel: On Fire.

Awake

Awake
Author: Natasha Preston

I never write off an author if I’m not fond of only one of their books. I’m very curious about her other stories. This one looks ultra-creepy. Just look at the first sentences on the back of the book gave me nasty chills.

Of course, the dress was white. This is what I’m supposed to die in.

 Love & Misadventure - SR

Love & Misadventure
Author: Lang Leav

I have a love for poetry. It’s not all of the time, but it is subtle and personal. Love and misadventure reached out to me like a mystery about the ups and downs of the strong emotion. About what it can do for you and to you and how to it makes you feel.

Poison Princess

Poison Princess: The Arcane Chronicles
Author: Kresley Cole

This was actually a recommendation from my boss and in all honesty, it sounded fun.

Imagine this, each card of the tarot deck are actual people. The Fool, Death, etc. they’re real. And they’re after one girl in particular. So she’s on the run. It already sounds crazy! Crazy fun and twisty on that little tid-bit.
